About the CVFD
The Chickahominy Volunteer Fire Department is part of Hanover Fire & EMS, a division of the Public Safety Department. CVFD is located in the Hanover Air Park in the south central part of Hanover County along the busy I-95 corridor. We currently maintain an active membership of about 30 volunteers. During the weekdays, we have a staff of career personnel on duty to supplement the volunteers. Hanover County currently has career staff at 5 of the 12 fire stations along with a career EMS staff that are located at strategic points throughout Hanover. Our members are well-trained in the area of both fire suppression and EMS. Having medical training is a high priority due to the fact that approximately 80% of our responses are to medical calls. Many of our members are state certified as EMT’s and some as high as the Paramedic level. In the very near future, Station 10 will be placing an ALS transport unit in service 24 hours a day. This will reduce the response time of an advanced life support crew to a large portion of our district. In addition to being well trained, the CVFD maintains a well equipped fleet of vehicles to respond to the various needs of the public. Along with the typical fire suppression apparatus, we operate a heavy rescue (Squad 10) that is one of the best equipped trucks in the area and responds to almost any type of special rescue situation. This is especially true with vehicle extrications. Due to our proximity to I-95 and I-295 we respond to a large number of motor vehicle accidents, many involving entrapment. Many of our members are highly trained and well experienced in the fine art of heavy and tactical rescue. |
