The Chickahominy Volunteer Fire Department is part of Hanover Fire & EMS, a division of the Public Safety Department. CVFD Station #10 is located in the Hanover Industrial Air Park in the south central part of Hanover County along the busy I-95 corridor, just north of I-295. We currently maintain an active membership of about 40 Volunteer Members and 16 Career Members. During the weekdays, the Career Members are on duty to supplement the volunteers.

Hanover County currently has Career Members at 11 of the 12 fire stations and at Fire Administration . Our members are well-trained in all aspects of the Fire and EMS Service that we provide to our community. Having medical training is a high priority due to the fact that approximately 72% of our responses are to medical calls. Three pieces of our apparatus are equipped and certified as EMS Vehicles. Many of our members are Virginia Emergency Medical Technician - Basics, and some have achieved the National Registered Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic status. Medic #10 is the Advanced Life Support Ambulance assigned to out station. It is manned 24-7-365 by two Career members and provide fast and efficient patient care to our community. All members that wear a Blue Helmet are in training and are valuable assets to us on every call. Yellow helmets denote the Fully Trained Firefighter. This member has passed many tests, and hold Virginia Department of Fire Programs certificates in NIMS, ICS, FF1, FF2, Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations to name a few.

Our training is always on going and we are always training in something. In addition to being well trained, the CVFD station #10 maintains a well equipped fleet of vehicles to respond to the various needs of the public. Along with the typical fire suppression apparatus and specialty apparatus. We operate a First Out Extrication Engine E-10, a Backup Engine E-10 Unit 2, a Heavy Squad Squad 10, a Forestry/First Response unit FR-10, the Medic unit M-10 and Car-10. We are proud of our equipment and our Squad-10 is one of the Best Equipped Heavy Rescue Squads in the area. This unit responds to almost any type of special rescue situation any where we are called to.

This is especially true with vehicle extrications, Haz-Mats and Structure Fires. Due to our proximity to Route 1, Route 301, I-95 and I-295 we respond to a large number of motor vehicle accidents, many involving entrapment or vehicles in precarious positions. Many of our members are highly trained and well experienced in the fine art of heavy and tactical rescue, Rope Rescue, Trench Rescue, Confined Space and High-Rise Firefighting. If this sounds good to you and you are up for a challenge this is the TEAM for you. Our Volunteers do not have to liv in Hanover County to join. We operate 7 Duty Crews that cover nights and week-ends and we are constantly looking for volunteers that want to get started in the Fire Service as well as the experienced firefighter that wants to volunteer his time for his fellow man.
